Swarm of Bats

I saw this idea on MADE, but decided I wanted a different style of bat.  I wanted a little more of a kid friendly shape instead of a more realisitic one.  And I already had the template from making my banner last year.  Here is the link to this bat if you want it.

After cutting out about 8 small bats by hand, I was done with that technique.  I traced the bat shape on my computer and imported it into sure-cuts-a-lot to cut it out on my cricut.  WAY faster!

Since we've moved into this house (almost a year ago) I still haven't figured out what I want to do with the huge vaulted space above the tv. . . so for now, it's home to a lot of bats.  I even wrapped them around the corner and down the hallway a little bit. 

Any bets on if my husband even notices them when he gets home?  :)

Spider Web Table Runner

I made a Spider Web Table Runner using the template and idea from here.

I didn't have any felt-by-the-yard on hand - and the kiddos were asleep, so I opted for what I had on hand since I couldn't go to the store (and it's fun to make things from what I have lying around - essentially making it free).  I used an old, white flannel sheet. 

But that meant that it would have fraying raw edges, so I added a bit to the measurements when cutting so I could fold the edges under and use a decorative stitch around the edge in black thread.  I also mitered the corners so it would lay flat - using this tutorial I found online.

In the end, I do wish I had just waited and bought a little bit of felt so it would last a bit longer.  It's pretty delicate and gets a little beat up when the kids grab it off the table.  But all in all, I'm happy with it.  I may back it with black fabric to make it last longer, but that means another step, and I have other projects I'm dying to finish . . . and a Super Saturday to get ready for - so no time this month.

***this took FOREVER to cut out and I had several hand cramps along the way.  So this isn't a "one day" or "one nap" project ***

Halloween Scarf

I saw this idea on Ruffles and Stuff (she's done blogging, but her blog is still up to view past posts). She used cute socks to make her daughter a scarf.

I used some of my old Halloween socks to make an adult Halloween scarf.Since I had crew style socks, I had more usable pieces of my sock - which helped make it adult sized. The orange and black on the left are skeletons, and the green ones and black one on the right (has silver, sparkly stripes) are not Halloween, but the colors went well with the other 2.

Since they are holiday socks, I only wore them a couple times in the last 5-6 years, so the foot part was in really good shape and looks new still.

My cousin had a baby earlier this year, so I made another set of baby blocks. His name was shorter than the date, so I added his height on the side this time.

Felt Flower Hair Clips

I saw a picture on a blog where someone was showing a shirt or dress that they made their little girl, but what caught my eye was the flower clip in her hair. I don't know if she bought it or made it, I just knew I had to have one - or several. I had to play around with different sizes since I was doing this on my own.

Here is the first one I made - out of pink felt with a pearl in the center.
I used a circle template in the 1", 1.5", 2", and 2.5" sizes and then drew scallops around the edges. I'm pretty proud of how even and perfect they turned out. :) I made these out of thick cardstock so I could use them as a template several times. I've since made 4 of these.Once I cut out the circles, I sewed them together and attached the sew-on pearl at the same time. Then I hot glued it to a hair snap clip. Since my 10 month old daughter has no hair to clip them into, I can clip it on a head band until hair decides to grow in.

Here are the 4 I've made so far. The brown one is made out of corduroy (didn't have any brown felt on hand). It's pretty flimsy and I don't think it will hold up very well in her little hands. But maybe I'll get one use out of it before it's destroyed. I made the black and gray one in hopes it would work as a Halloween hair clip. I can't seem to find any orange or lime green felt that's not ugly neon shades.
I made the white one right before church on Sunday since I couldn't find an existing hair clip to match her outfit. It only took about 5 minutes to make. And we were still on time for church - even though my husband was rolling his eyes at me since I just had to make it when we were already ready to go out the door.
