Santa's Belly Ornament

I work in the Young Women's group at our church (for the girls 12-18 years old), and this week we had a Christmas Craft Night for our Activity. Each of the leaders came up with a different craft to teach the girls.

Here's mine - Santa's Belly Ornament
To make this, you'll need:
  • square glass ornaments
  • black paint
  • white puffy paint
  • strips of red cardstock (mine are about 1/4"x4")
Coil the strips of paper around something thin - I wrapped mine around the end of a paint brush handle.
After making each coil, put them in the ornament - I didn't count how many I coiled, but once you've filled it up, you're good :)
Then, paint a black stripe around the center of the ornament (santa's belt). Once that's dry, use the puffy paint to draw a square (belt buckle) around the belt.
Finish it off with ribbon to hang it up.

  1. I absolutely love it!!! Unique and fun!!!!

  2. SOOOO pretty! My kids always make my mom ornaments for her tree and she is a Santa fan! These are MUST do's for us. Thank you for sharing :)

  3. Hey Serena I strongly think you should open your artcraft store!

  4. I just have a question about the car notebook. How do you put the ribbon (I think it is ribbon) on the Velcro and the ribbon on the back to make it stay? I also really like this idea. I really like it and can't wait to try.

  5. A really different idea. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Oh my gosh. That is so cute. Where did you get the square ornaments?

  7. I found the square ornaments at Ben Franklin Crafts

  8. How cute :) I made a similar ornament last year where I used a red ball ornie, black felt and a gold chenille stem for the belt buckle. Love your coils, great idea ;)

  9. Hey I made one of these for our tree... I linked in my post back to this post :D come have a look if you want to see... I also did another one, a reindeer...
Your young women must love you tons for being so crafty!

  10. Thanks so much for sharing - I LOVE it! We've linked up to you in our post "Clear Ornament Inspiration."
